devon and exeter institution

The Devon and Exeter Institution has played a major role in Pollard's research for Three Drops of Blood.

The Institution has some incredible collections of books and maps and holds a complicated history and resonance of power, colonialism, empire and classification.

Three Drops of Blood perfectly captures Pollard's skill in working with these kinds of institutions and beautifully unfolding quieter voices.

As Exeter's original museum (established in 1813), the founding aim of the institution was:

"To promote the general diffusion of Science, Literature and the Arts, and for illustrating the Natural and Civil History of the County of Devon, and the History of the City of Exeter"
